AoA Global Activities

As the federal focal point for older Americans and their caregivers, the AoA plays a vital role in information exchange on aging issues with other countries, and in collaborating with international organizations to enhance aging programs and policies worldwide. This section provides links to current AoA activities.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) was launched in 2006 by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA). It was officially recognized by the UN General Assembly in December 2011. In 2012, the UN hosted its first WEAAD event in partnership with the UN NGO Committee on Ageing and INPEA.
