October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Domestic violence can happen to anyone regardless of age. Each year hundreds of thousands of older persons are abused, neglected and exploited. Domestic violence among older adults is a form of elder abuse and it can turn a home into a place of fear, hopelessness and desperation.
The Administration on Aging joins with other federal agencies and survivors, advocates, and communities around the country to observe October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This is a moment to elevate the conversation so the majority of Americans will understand that violence is unacceptable at any age, and in any form.
